Weddings & Vow renewals

You don’t love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear.

OSCAR WILDE

First of all, congratulations! Meeting someone to share your life with is a joyful thing, which deserves to be celebrated. The wonderful thing about a celebrant led wedding is that there are no rules; your wedding can be wherever you want it, however you want it!

At Root & Branch we work hard to really get to know your love story by establishing an open line of communication and sharing of ideas over the weeks and months leading up to your big day. This ensures that the final ceremony is exactly what you’d hoped for, celebrating your unique love story and encapsulating the essence of you, both as individuals and as a couple.

FAQS

What does a wedding celebrant do?

A wedding celebrant creates and delivers a wedding ceremony which is tailored to the couples particular beliefs, personality, style and situation.

Why choose a celebrant rather than a registrar?

Many couples wish to have more freedom over their choice of wedding location – if your perfect venue is outdoors in a garden or woodland, or if it’s indoors but isn’t licenced, then civil registrars can’t perform a ceremony there. A celebrant led wedding has no limitations on time of day, length of ceremony or location.

Even if your preferred venue does have a licence, a registrar led wedding ceremony still has limitations in terms of wording and content and is essentially ‘off the shelf’ rather than ‘bespoke’.  No two celebrant ceremonies will be the same.

Can a wedding celebrant legally marry people?

Not at the moment.  Currently in England and Wales only church ministers and registrars can legally marry people so with a celebrant led wedding, the legal admin is done separately to the ceremony.  You can book the signing room at your local register office, take two witnesses along, and literally just sign the documents, saving your vow and ring exchange, and everything else until the actual ceremony date.

Will the ceremony include any religious elements?

This is totally up to you, we can include religious or spiritual elements or we can keep things wholly secular. A celebrant led wedding is a great solution for couples who come from different religions or cultures as these can be blended in a unique ceremony which reflects the coming together of different faiths or customs.

What elements are included in a celebrant led ceremony?

Again, this is totally up to you; we are there to advise, guide and offer up ideas.  Some ‘traditional’ elements are music, singing, readings, poetry, exchange of vows and exchange of rings. Other elements you may wish to include are rituals such as ring warmings, sand ceremonies, candle ceremonies, hand fastings or any rituals which reflect your cultures, traditions or beliefs.  This can also be a great way to involve other people – friends, family, children (even pets!) – in the ceremony.  Formal, relaxed, traditional, quirky or flamboyant – we will help to create something that suits you.

How much do you charge?

Our wedding ceremony fee starts at £700 – additional costs will apply for travel outside of London, accommodation if needed, full rehearsals (rather than walk through) and provision of ceremony props (e.g. candles, ribbons).

Are you insured?

We are registered members of the International College of Professional Celebrants and are covered by their Professional Indemnity and Public Liability insurance.
